WORLD CUP FLY OFF REPORT 2006

1.        Ferid Catak :  Breaks: 5 7 8 5 10 5 8 6 // 13 7 7 14 5 5 11 8 5 // 6 8 5 7 5 6 // 6 7 5 9 10 6 7. Raw: 274. Quality 1.4  Depth: 1.4.  Total: 537.04. Ferid flew a beautiful hardworking kit, good teamwork. I think the big difference with most of the other kits was that his birds worked hard the entire 20 minutes of the fly! In some of the breaks a little bit of waterfalling, some of the smaller breaks with lesser quality, what hurts the average quality factor. Still room for improvement, but definately the best kit in this competition! Congratulations Ferid!

2.        Brian McKenzie: Breaks : 5 5 5 6 6 10 5 10 5 // 5 7 7 5 5 6 5 5  // 6 11 6 // 6 7 5 7 5 . Raw: 186. Quality 1.5 .Depth 1.5. Total:  418.5. Brian flew a real nice quality kit, with some beautiful spinners! Loose kitting was a major problem with this team this day, with thight kitting this team would have scored more and bigger breaks, maybe the next time! Nevertheless a good result!

3.        Kevin McKinney:  Breaks: 5 6 5 5 7 6 5 7 6 5 // 6 6 5 5 6 5 8 12 9 // 9 10 // - .  Raw : 160. Quality: 1.5 Depth: 1.4  Total: 336.  Kevin used broom and flag  to get them up,but after 4 1/2 min, the kit lifted some  and he called time in! His kit started working realy nice, with good quality rollers. He put them up to late, so about 10 / 12 min in the fly ,when the kit lifted even more it was too dark to continue scoring, you could still see that the kit was working, but quality etc. was guessing, so stop scoring! Too bad for Kevin, but they should have stayed low, or Kevin had to put them up earlier!

4.        Jim Taylor:  Breaks : 6 5 5 5 5 6 // 12 6 6 5 5 // 6 5 5 5 7 // 11 6 7 9 8 10 6 . Raw 184 . Quality 1.3 Depth 1.3  Total : 310.96.  Jim flew a nice active entertaining kit. What hurt his quality multiplier was the fact that too many of the smaller breaks were of less quality, and this multiplier is the average of all the breaks in the fly! Still a real nice result in this competition!

5.        Clay Hoyle:  Breaks: 5 5 5 7 8 6 // 11 7 5 7 5 5 // 5 6 // 7 5 12 5 5 . Raw: 144. Quality: 1.5. Depth: 1.4. Total: 302.4.  Real nice quality kit, with some fast beautiful individuals! It was pretty hot already, but this team was ready to work and did so! The kitting of this team was unfortuenately too loose ,with thigter kitting  this team would too, would have scored more and bigger simultanious breaks! It was a beautiful show, thanks Clay!

6.        Nick Tsoltoudis :  Breaks: 7 5 5 5 5 5 6 5 // 6 9 5 5 5 5 5 5 // 6 5 5 5 // 5 6 6 10. Raw: 146. Quality: 1.3  Depth 1.3. Total: 246.74. Active team, the kitting was too loose, causes waterfall activity  and small breaks. Had one outbird most of the time, but it did not affect his score. A few bigger breaks with good quality  showed us that the kit  has more potential than shown in most of the smaller breaks. Nice entertaining team.

7.        Jerry Higgins : Breaks : 6 5 6 5 7 5 // 6 10 6 7 5 // 6 5 5 // 5 7 8 5 . Raw 119. Quality: 1.4.  Depth 1.4.  Total : 233.24. Nice quality team, flew on a nice height, and in sight and I was happy with that, seen all the trees at Jerry’s place. The first half of the fly I was a little disappointed by the quality, but the last part the quality improved and in a few of the bigger breaks we saw some beautiful spinners. A nice active team.

8.        Trevor Weaver. Breaks :  6 5 5 6 8 5 6 // 7 9 7 5 13 12 7 // - // - . Raw 126. Quality: 1.4. Depth : 1.3. Total : 229.32. Trevor’s kit started flying on a nice height, nice pattern with nice breaks, and we saw the quality and breaks improving in the second 5 min of the fly . Unfortunately the team started flying a little nervous and a few birds left the kit and  stayed out the rest of the time, no more scoring! Too bad for Trevor, more luck next time!

9.        Riaan Kruger.  Breaks : 5 5 5 6 // 5 9 5 9 8 // 5 6 9 5 6 5 5 // 8 5. Raw: 111. Quality: 1.4. Depth: 1.4. Total: 217.56.  Real active entertaining kit, with quite a few nice fast individuals! Good teamwork was missing most of the time, too many individual rolling birds, and different outbirds too often. On a good day this team is probably capable of  a far better performance than this day, more luck next time Riaan, you have the birds!

10.     Jose Luis Lorenzo. Breaks : 5 5 7 6 // 5 5 5 7 5 6 // 5 7 8 9 // 5 5 7 5 5 6 . Raw: 118. Quality:1.4. Depth:1.3. Total: 214.76. His kit gave us a nice performance, but flew maybe a little too high. A few birds didn’t have the right kitdiscipline and were in and out of the team too often. Still a top ten kit in this world cup fly so you must be happy, with this team!

11.     Joe Bob Stuka. Breaks: 5 6 6 7 7  6 6 // 9 9 8 5 6 7 5 6 // 5 // 6 . Raw: 109. Quality: 1.4. Depth: 1.3. Total: 198.38. A nice surprise for me,because Joe Bob’s kit flew a beautiful figure 8 pattern on a perfect height and showed nice teamwork. I had seen Joe Bob’s birds 4 and 6 years before, for what I’ve seen than and now I think Joe Bob improved his overall quality a lot! First 10 min. the kit was beautiful and active, but the second half the kit flew in circles and stopped working, too bad. For Joe Bob to find out what went wrong?

12.     Thysie Fourie. Breaks: 6 5 5 7 5 5 // 9 5 5 7 6 // 6 5 5 5 // 5 5 . Raw: 96. Quality: 1.3 Depth 1.4. Total:174.72. His team started with good action, breaks and quality but the further towards the end of the 20 min. less action, less quality as of the energy was gone, the kit landed just after the 20 minutes.  The kitting in this team too should be better, the best quality was in the bigger breaks. Thys is new,he’ll be back!

13.     Steve Smith:    Breaks: 6 5 5 5 5 // 6 6 5 5 7 6 // 7 9 6 //5 7 5 . Raw: 100. Quality: 1.3. Depth: 1.2. Total: 156. A nice kit, active, and towards the end improving quality and depth.  Good height and kitting was nice

,but a few birds in and out of the team. I expect Steve back the next years, and better!

14.     Poen Sahabodien.   Breaks:  5 6 5 7 5 // 8 5 7 // 5 6 // 5 5 5 5 6 . Raw: 85. Quality: 1.2 Depth:1.4. Total:            142.8. Poen’s kit flew on a beautiful height and a nice pattern. The kit was working nice, but the kitting has to be tighter and most of the rolling was a little soft! Thigter kitting creates more tension and excitement in the team, and therefore often better quality, and more simultanious breaks!

15.     Scott Campbell.   (Utah) Breaks : 6 5 5 7 7 // 5 6 6 5 7 // 5 5 5 5 // 5.  Raw: 84. Quality: 1.3. Depth :1.3 . Total: 141.96.  Scott’s kit started real nice and active, unfortunately his team became less active and lifted to high  the second  10 minutes of the fly. Still a nice result I would say in the Wcfly!

15.   Henk Nijman.    Breaks:  5 7 // 5 // 7 6 13 // 9 7 5 7. Raw: 84. Quality: 1.3. Depth: 1.3. Total: 141.96.

Henk was a bit nervous, and everybody in the yard was excited, because  Henk has done realy good in

the previous competitions, and certainly capable with his birds to beat the leading team so far. But it was

not his lucky day, his birds flew a strange pattern and weren’t active as we were used to see at Henk’s

place. Still a nice score, but we were al a bit disappointed by the final result! He’ll sure try to be back in

              the top ten next year!

16.   Alonzo Cano.    Breaks: 5 5 5 5 6 5 6 5 5 // 5 6 5 5 5 // 6 5 7 5 // - . Raw: 96. Quality: 1.2. Depth: 1.2.                Total: 138.24. His team started  nice and active, the quality wasn’t that good in the beginning, but           became better towards the end of the fly, they warmed up, a nice active team! A falcon attacked the    team , but fortunately  in the very last minute and not in the first minutes!

17.    David Vang.   Breaks: 5 5 6 6 // 5 5 5 7 // 6 5 5 5 // 6 6 . Raw: 77. Quality: 1.3. Depth: 1.3. Total: 130.13.        David flew some new birds in his team, because some of his birds were stolen,maybe  because of this

reason, his birds  weren’t kitting with a discipline like we wanted to see. Fortunately when the birds

were kitting they did score some breaks and produced a nice total score!

18.         Cedric Leighton.   Breaks:  5 5 5 5 7 // 6 5 // 9 6 // 6 5 5 .Raw: 69. Quality: 1.3. Depth: 1.4 . Total: 125.58

Cedric flew at the end of the day and his birds started nice and active. He had one outbird often, but it

didn’t hurt the score, in some of the bigger breaks we saw the better quality!

19.         Charles Joubert.  Breaks: 6 6 6 5 5 // 7 // 5 8 6 5 // 6 5 .Raw: 70. Quality:1.3. Depth: 1.3. Total: 118.3.

The kit started with  a nice fly pattern and height, and scored some nice breaks but during the fly the kit

changed the flypattern and was like playing with the wind and was less active. When the kit picked up

the good pattern again it started scoring too! Nice kit, but Charles said they could do a lot better, we

hope to see them back next year!

20.         Steve Naude.   Breaks: 10 5 5 5 6 5 5 // 6 6 // 7 // 6 5 7. Raw: 88. Quality: 1.1 Depth: 1.2. Total: 116.16.

Steve let his kit out and waited for the kit to gain some height and then called time in, just after time in

the kit came together close and was like exploding in a beautiful break, almost all birds involved, but

sad enough not all in good enough quality to score! I was excited and was expecting more and maybe

even better, but most following breaks were just scorable. The kitting and height was beautiful.

21.         Calman Grobler.  Breaks: 5 5 // 5 5 5 8 5 5 5 // 6 5 5 6 // 5. Raw: 75. Quality: 1.1 Depth: 1.2 Total: 99.

The kitting of Calman”s kit was a problem, but evenso they scored some nice points, they were

                 working and deserved the points.

22.         Pete Handy.   Breaks: 5 5 5 6 // 6 5 // 5 // 5 5 6 5. Raw: 58. Quality: 1.3. Depth: 1.3. Total: 98.02.

Pete’s  kit flew nice and calm, but too relaxed, it was as if the kit had no idea that Pete wanted them

to work for us that evening. They scored some small breaks, but not with the quality I’ve seen there

before (same year Pete won the WC.) Pete wasn’t expecting a lot more that evening, but I was!

Hope to see him back in the top next year!He has the pigeons for it!

23.         Frank Dry.   Breaks:  9 5 5 5 5 // 5 5 5 6 // - // 7 7 6. Raw: 70. Quality: 1.1.Depth: 1.2. Total: 92.4.

Frank is struggling too with kitting problems in his birds, experimenting crossing his family!

He still flew an active team, but most breaks (rolls) were loose, still a lot of work to do, but that

is what we know in this hobby it’s never done!

24.         Aris Punla.   Breaks:  9 5 7 5 // 5 // 5 7 // 6. Raw: 49. Quality: 1.2. Depth: 1.3. Total: 76.44.

This kit started with some nice breaks in the first 5 minutes with  nice pattern and height, but

realy calmed down too much, scored a few more breaks during the rest of the fly but not the same

energy  anymore. The kitting was nice!

25.         Peet du Plessis.   Breaks: 6 9 // 6 // 5 // 5 6 5 5 5 . Raw: 52. Quality: 1.2 Depth:1.2. Total: 74.88.

This kit started with some nice breaks, but went too high pretty fast. Kit came down enough to score

again at the end, but this quality was just scorable. So this kit was, in 20 min.: active, too high

                   and down again!

25.      Paul Chantry.  Breaks:  7 5 6 // 5 // 5 8 5 // 5 6.  Raw: 52. Quality: 1.2 Depth: 1.2. Total: 74.88.

Paul’s kit just flew too low to realy get started , most of the time dancing over the roofs and not a lot

of activity, the times they went up we saw some nice breaks. Paul and Donna are keen fanciers, they

will be back! They were working with some new birds to create better kits, we’ll see!

26.         Charles Hudson.  Breaks: 5 5 5 7 6 5 // 5 5 6 5 5 // - // -. Raw: 59. Quality: 1.1 Depth: 1.1 Total: 71.39.

Charles released his kit and they started real active, but the breaks were a little short and loose in the

roll. After ten minutes the birds went too high to score anymore, try to keep them on a scorable

                    height!

27.         Abel Ibarra. Breaks:  - // 5 6 // 6 5 // 5 5 5 5.  Raw 42. Quality:1.3 Depth:1.3 Total: 70.98.

No scorable activity in the first 5 minutes, towards the end better quality and more action!

Different birds leaving the kit for some time for no reason, no kitdiscipline?

28.         Brian McCormick.  Breaks: 5 5 5 // 6 // 5 // 5 5 5. Raw: 41. Quality:1.3 Depth: 1.3. Total: 69.29.

Pretty soon after Brian put up his kit we saw that the team wasn’t  competition topfit, they didn’t

work like they’ve done before he said. The kit did still score some breaks , but the kitting was too

loose most of the time. I did see some real nice fast deep pigeons, and Brian promised to be back!

29.         Donny Faison.  Breaks: 5 // 7 8 5 // 7 5 6 // -. Raw: 43. Quality: 1.2 Depth: 1.2. Total: 61.92.

Donny flew a real good kitting team, not very active, and a little too high, they scored some nice

breaks!Try to keep them on better judging height, easier for yourself too, to study your birds!

 29.    Victor Babilonia.  Breaks: 5 5 6 // 5 5 6 // 6 // 5.  Raw 43. Quality:1.2 Depth: 1.2. Total: 61.92.

Real strong wind in the morning kept Victor from flying his kit, but in the afternoon the wind was

less strong and he flew his team. Still windy, but they handled it realy nice, he scored some nice

breaks. Victor has a few good spinners in his team, nice birds to work with!

30.         Rick Schoening.  Breaks: 5 5 8 // 5 6 5 // - // 6. Raw:40. Quality: 1.2 Depth:1.2. Total: 57.6.

Kitting wasn’t good and that’s what you need for more and better scorable breaks.

Rick’s preparation before the fly (not out for 6 days)  wasn’t normal, so probably this also caused

that  he had too often outbirds what hurt his score. One bird landed early.

31.         Frank Baker.   Breaks: 5 5 5 // 5 // 5 5 // 6 6. Raw: 42. Quality: 1.1  Depth:1.2. Total: 55.44.

His kit did not realy want to work today but it flew on a  nice height, majority of the team was

kitting beautiful and tight, a few birds in and out of the        kit sometimes. Most birds were short and

loose in the roll. Still some work to do Frank!

32.         Manny Manion.   Breaks: 5 5 5 5 5 5. Raw :30. Quality: 1.3 Depth:1.2. Total: 46.8.

Same problem here, the kitting was loose and with one bird who  came down early, every time a

bird left the kit scoring stopped! Majid had some beautiful fast pigeons in his team.

33.      Henri Smit.   Breaks: 6 5 5 // 5 // - // 5 6.  Raw 32. Quality: 1.2. Depth: 1.2. Total: 46.08.

Most times I’ve seen  Henri’s kit , it was a hard working team, but not today, not active at all!

Most activity this time was to much waterfall and the rolling was often loose. I know he could

have done a lot better, but Henri was already happy he qualified and flew in this competition!

34.         Johnnie Conradi.  Breaks: 5 6 5 5 5 // - // 5 // -.  Raw: 31. Quality: 1.2. Depth: 1.2. Total: 44.84.

First 5 minutes Johnnie’s birds flew on a good height and a nice pattern, the team was kitting good.

The rest of the time the kit flew too fast and no quiet pattern to set up for some more breaks.

35.       Alex Hamilton.  Breaks: 5 // 5 // 5 5 5 7 // 5 5.  Raw: 42 Quality: 1.0. Depth: 1.0  Total: 42.

Alex’s birds just didn’t want to work hard this day, they were fairly stiff. The breaks they scored

were just scorable, many birds short and loose in the roll. One bird out often.

36.       Brad Winward.   Breaks:  5 7 8  Raw: 20. Quality: 1.4  Depth: 1.4.  Total: 39.2.  Brad’s birds started real

nice with some good breaks with nice quality, some real nice spinners in this team! Too bad his kit

had pretty soon outbirds and later went too high!

37.           John Szczurko.   Breaks: 5 // 5 // 5 5 // 7. Raw: 27. Quality: 1.1 Depth: 1.3  Total: 38.61.  This team was

kitting realy nice, some nice breaks, but most pigeons were loose in the roll. The kit flew a little

fast and nervous, did not relax enough to set up for some more breaks.

38.       Keith London.  Breaks:  5 // 6 // 6 5 // -.  Raw: 22. Quality:  1.3  Depth:  1.3   Total:  37.18.  Keith had

one bird that bumped when he let them out, this bird landed in the first minute. The kit wasn’t

realy active and   he also lost some breaks because of another outbird during the fly.

38.           Joe Urban.  Breaks: 5 5 // 6 // 6 // -.   Raw: 22.  Quality: 1.3  Depth: 1.3  Total: 37.18.  The kit wasn’t

flying as a team, a few birds in and out all the time, hardly no action, but a few real nice birds!

39.       Tom Mendes.    Breaks:  5 5 6 // 5 5 // 5 // 5.  Raw: 36. Quality: 1.0  Depth: 1.0  Total: 36.  I realy

enjoyed this kit, it flew the fig 8 pattern on a perfect height, the kitting was good and they worked

as a team breaking together like we want them to do. Sad was that there were only  a small amount

of birds in the breaks with scorable quality and depth, this is were Tom has to work on, the rest

                       was beautiful!

40.          Hennie Phal.  Breaks: 5 5 // 6 // - // 5 5 . Raw: 26  Quality: 1.1  Depth: 1.2.   Total: 34.32.   Hennies kit

flew in circles and too low all the time and wasn’t realy active what you see often when a kit flies

only in circles! Hennie knows they can be a lot better, just bad luck this day?

41.           Jim Shumway.   Breaks:  5 5 5 // 5 // 5 // -.  Raw: 25 Quality: 1.1  Depth 1.1  Total: 30.25.

His kit started with some action but that wasn’t for long, he had one bird out all the time, and a

second one too often.  The kit landed at 19minutes 59seconds!

42.           Justin Okerlund.  Breaks: 5 6 // 5 5 // - // 6 .  Raw: 27  Quality: 1.0  Depth: 1.0  Total:  27.

Justin   flew a good kitting team, I scored some breaks but the kit went to high and he missed

                       because of this some breaks.

43.           Gary Richards.  Breaks:  6 5 // 5 // 6 5 // - . Raw: 22.  Quality:  1.1. Depth:  1.1.  Total: 26.62.

The kit wasn’t used to the deadstill weather, they had to fly in it this morning and weren’t realy

active.  In many of the breaks the birds were following through, so not scorable.

44.         Dave Gehrke.  Breaks:  5 5 5 // - // 5 5 // -.  Raw: 25  Quality :1.0  Depth:1.0   Total:  25.

Dave’s birds were having a good time, playing in the wind, in good shape but not in the mood to

give us the show we were hoping for! They scored some breaks but only just scorable quality

45.         Allen Seymour-Smith.   Breaks:  - // - // 5 5 5 // 5.  Raw 20  Quality; 1.1.  Depth: 1.1.  Total: 24.2.

In the first break I saw one excellent fast dark chequer. The team wasn’t aware of the importance

of this day and refused to work. The kitting was nice.

46.                Dave Szabatura.   Breaks:  6 5 // 5 // 5 // -.  Raw: 21.  Quality: 1.0  Depth: 1.0  Total: 21.

Several birds with no good kitdiscipline, in and out of the team way too often. The team wasn’t

realy active and the avarage breaks were just scorable for quality and depth.

47.                Willie Silvey.   Breaks:  5 5 // 5 // 5 // -.  Raw:  20  Quality: 1.0  Depth: 1.0. Total:  20.

Not a real entertaining show at Willie’s place this time. Loose kitting , one bird out most of the

time. Some nice individuals made us feel better about this performance today!

48.                Dennis Berry.  Breaks:  - // 5 // - // 5 7.  Raw: 17.  Quality: 1.0  Depth: 1.0.  Total: 17.

His kit flew rightwing circles , and hardly no action, later the kit went up too high. Near the end

when the kit came down enough, I saw some scorable action again.

49.                Bob Hord.   Breaks:  6 5 // - // - // 5.   Raw: 16.  Quality: 1.0  Depth: 1.0  Total:  16.

Bob’s birds just flew nice but realy relaxed, too relaxed and just didn’t want to work this day!

They didn’t know it was only Bob who was retired!

49.         Rocky Burrows.  Breaks:  6 5 // - // 5 // -.  Raw: 16.  Quality: 1.0  Depth: 1.0. Total:  16.

The kit came out a little excited, scored 2 breaks, but later there was no nice flypattern, and hardly

no activity anymore. One outbird during the fly.

50.                Rick Price.   Breaks:  5 5 // -.  Raw: 10. Quality: 1.2.  Depth: 1.2.  Total: 14.4.  Rick’s birds came out

with energy, scored some breaks but then warning signals from wildbirds made them nervous,

and for a reason! A falcon attacked at 9 min. in the fly, he got a 5 min. time out, but the falcon

kept attacking and his birds landed  1 min. after the timeout! Fortunately no losses, but end of fly!

I hope more luck for you next year Rick!

51.                Eric Schoelkopf.   Breaks:  - // 5 // - // 6.  Raw: 11.  Quality: 1.1 Depth: 1.1  Total: 13.31.

This was not Eric’s lucky day! No kitting discipline in this team today, outbirds most of the time

and different ones! Bad kitting is a major problem in a lot of teams!

52.                Mike Wolden.   Breaks:  8 // - // - // -.   Raw : 8  Quality : 1.2. Depth : 1.2  Total : 11.52.

It was a bit windy, but not like it should be a problem for the kit. They started with a nice break

and soon after that the kit kind of decided to fly about half a mile down the road and out of

judgingsight. The birds were playing with the wind and not realy interested in breaking. A couple

of times the kit was back near the loft but left again to fly somewhere else. Bad luck, Mike!

53.       Norman Herrin.   Breaks: 5 // 6 // - // -.   Raw: 11   Quality: 1.0  Depth:  1.0.   Total: 11.

Norm’s birds came out with enough energy, they flew on a nice height, the kitting was good.

The kit flew pretty fast and that probably kept them from setting up for some more action.

54.        Jim Spring.      Breaks: 5  5 .   Raw: 10.  Quality: 1.0  Depth: 1.0.  Total: 10.

Jim’s team too had a problem with kitting, during the entire fly different birds in and out of the

kit for no reason at all. The pattern the kit flew was a little nervous and zig zagging.

55.       Dawie de Villiers.   Breaks: - // - // - // 6 .  Raw: 6.  Quality: 1.1  Depth: 1.1. Total:  7.26.

Dawie’s kit flew realy nice, good kitting, good height but no action, more luck next time Dawie!

56.        Ivan Hanchett.    Breaks:  6 // - // - // - .  Raw: 6  Quality: 1.0  Depth: 1.0.  Total: 6

Ivan’s kit was stiff, hardly no activity, just one scorable break and flew  ¾ of the time to high to

score. We all were expecting more, but unfortunately these things happen too often in this hobby!

56.              Ted Peoples.   Breaks:  - // 6 // - // -.  Raw:  6. Quality: 1.0  Depth: 1.0  Total: 6.   Ted’s birds just didn’t

want to work, no activity, just one scorable break and the kit landed just after the 15 min. so he

kept his points! Maybe to hot,was the idea! But one hour later, and even hotter we saw an

exhibitionkit at Charlie’s and this kit flew perfect and worked! Conclusion: Ted’s birds just

weren’t  in the right form/condition this day. Ted get in touch with Charlie!

57.              Beaver Dayton.  Breaks:  - // 5 // - // -.  Raw: 5.  Quality: 1.0.  Depth: 1.0.  Total: 5.

This kit too just flew and flew, no performance, a disappointment for all of us in the yard,

Beaver’s birds didn’t want to do it today! One bird landed early at 17 min. 30 sec.

57.              Pete Kaufman.   Breaks:  5 // - // - // -.  Raw: 5  Quality: 1.0  Depth: 1.0  Total: 5 .

One scorable break and  that was it, nice birds, flew good , beautiful area, what more can I say!

I hope Pete knows what was wrong this day and can do something about it!

57.        Aaron Johnson.    Breaks: 5 // - // - // -.  Raw: 5. Quality: 1.0  Depth:1.0.   Total: 5.

One of the few fanciers and maybe the last who has only pure Monty offspring in his loft, I was

looking forward to judge Aaron’s kit. We were the two people who saw Monty’s last World

Championkit in 2000 and both have seen the topquality of his birds. Aaron wasn’t that lucky this

day, he scored just one break in the first few minutes. He had an outbird almost right from the

start and the second bird joined this one 4 min. in the fly these two stayed out the entire time!

I did see some nice breaks of the kit, with a few real nice spinners, Aaron will be back!

57.        Henry Cook.    Breaks: - // 5 // - // -.  Raw:  5  Quality; 1.0  Depth: 1.0. Total:  5 .

Not in the mood, not ready, who will tell, but they just didn’t do what we were waiting for!

One break and the rest of what they did was just not scorable, better luck next time, Henry!

58.         Kenny Hartman.    Breaks: - .  Total: 0.  Kenny was sure he let 16 birds out! I never counted more than

15, we saw no bird landing or rolldown, so we just considered one bird out! Almost all the time

he had another outbird, so no score! I saw some nice activity ,most in a distance, the kit flew far

from the loft  the first part. I did see some nice birds, so I’m sure Kenny has more quality there

                          than he scored today!

58.              Dave Hafner.  Breaks:  -.  Total: 0.   Dave’s birds flew a nice pattern the first part, but I just didn’t see

any scorable action, to bad, but this happens sometimes! More luck next time Dave!

59.        Vince Callega.  Breaks: 5 5 5 // 5 5 // -   DQ. His kit started with some scorable breaks and even a break

with some better quality so I was expecting this kit to warm up, relax a little more, but one bird

decided to land after 11 min. in the fly and the rest followed, and that was the sad end of this fly.

Not any DQ sofar, I was so glad about that, but it had to happen at the very last flyer of this

competition, to bad it was you Vince!

 WORLD CUP FLYOFF 2006

Judge Heine Bijker of  The Netherlands ( Holland)

I can’t tell you people how glad I am to have finished this flyoff report, after 69 kits judged and writing a little report of every fly and find the right words to explain what I saw and thought about every kit in a foreign language is very hard, believe me!!

First of all, I want to thank Ron Duncan our General Coordinator , Tim Decker our treasurer and Dennis Hayes our website director for all the work they did for our hobby, without people like them we wouldn’t have a World Cup Rollerfly. You must be very very crazy about this hobby to volunteer for these jobs, everybody  should realy appreciate what they do for us!

Next I want to thank all the people who invited me into their houses and took realy good care of me, it was awesome! Ofcourse I have to thank my wife Teatske, to let me go again and realy important, my niece Esther who took care of my pigeons, fed, cleaned and trained them too! She has done this all three times I’ve judged, every time I came home it was as if I’d just been gone for a few days!

That I could judge this competition for the third time was a surprice for me but I realy enjoyed it again! It was an honour for me to judge again and I was looking forward to see many of the kits I’ve judged before to see the possible improvement?

A real surprise was the amount of new people I,ve met and judged this time. I believe of the 69 people ͒ve judged this time I had judged only 13 of these before in the two previous times in 2000 and 2002, so 53 new fanciers for me, ofcourse I’d met several before, but not judged, I realy liked that.

This years WC rollerfly was seen the scores not one of the best. I did see some beautiful kits, but the overall quality was a bit of a disapointment for me, and you see this in the scores too, the highest quality multipliers were 1.5 for only  3 kits in this competition! Ofcourse a lot of people will criticize my judging and that’s ok with me. Everybody knows this was my third time judging this WC and I’ve been around to many places and seen loads of kits everywhere and seen awsome kits with excellent quality, you have to believe me that I know what a quality kit looks like!I tried to judge as good as possible with my knowlegde of a good quality kit of Birmingham Rollers, and  I was an easy judge, believe me!

The judging I did was ofcourse just on this particular day and only  this finals fly, I know that many of the kits I judged can do a lot better than this, but it was what I saw and judged on this occasion! Many fanciers were maybe disapointed in the score they got , but don’t blame the judge, you have to earn the points with your birds!

I realized too that many fanciers, just by listening while watching their birds probably never ever have seen real topquality spinners or a topquality team, but think they have! This gives them the idea that they have better birds than they actualy have! But this doesn’t have to be a problem for your fun in the hobby, just realize it maybe, but don’t fool yourself! They always can be better, and the struggling to achieve that is what this hobby is about!

I sure hope that next year a lot of flyers will have the luck that their birds show on competitionday what they’re capable off, because I certainly think that a lot of fanciers had bad luck this year!

Thank you all for flying your birds for me and I hope that you enjoyed my company/judging just like I did ,and that we both learned from it! All the best to all my friends in this fantastic hobby and I sure hope to see several of my friends in Holland one day!
